ADMISSIONS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2009-2010
Applications are invited for admission to the following (i) Research Program [Ph D/ M Sc (Engg)] (ii) Course Program [ME/ M Tech/M Des] (iii) Integrated Ph D Program and (iv) External Registration Program[Ph D/ M Sc (Engg)] at the Institute. Eligibility criteria, specialization, areas of research and the other details are available at our website http://www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions. Candidates who have not yet completed their qualifying examinations and expect to complete all the requirements for the degree (including all examinations, project dissertation, viva-voce etc.) before July 31, 2009, are also eligible to apply.
( i) RESEARCH PROGRAM [Ph D/M Sc(Engg)]
Ph D in Science: Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Ecological Sciences, High Energy Physics, Inorganic & Physical Chemistry, Materials Research, Mathematics, Microbiology & Cell Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Reproduction, Development & Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Solid State & Structural Chemistry, and Management Studies.
M Sc(Engg) and Ph D in Engineering: Aerospace Engineering, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Automation, Earth Sciences, Electrical Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Design & Technology, Instrumentation, Management Studies, Materials Engineering, Materials Research, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design & Manufacturing, Sustainable Technologies, and Supercomputer Education & Research.
Ph D in Interdisciplinary Programs: Chemical Biology, Earth System Science, Mathematical Sciences, Nanoengineering for Integrated Systems, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, and Neuroscience.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants possessing minimum second class in the following are eligible to apply:
Bachelor’s or Master's degree in an appropriate field of Engineering/Technology/Architecture; or Master’s degree in Science in an appropriate field/Agriculture/Biotechnology, Architecture; or MBBS; or M Pharma; or M V Sc, or Master’s degree in German Language; or in Economics, Geography, Social Work, Psychology, Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science/ Application as applicable to the respective departments.
Qualifying in one of the following appropriate Tests (with valid certificate) is mandatory for the candidates applying for Ph D in Science, Interdisciplinary programs and M Sc(Engg): CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; or UGC-NET for JRF; or DBT JRF or ICMR JRF; or JEST; or NBHM; or IISc Entrance Test; or GATE. This is not applicable to the candidates who possess a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Management (post BE/B Tech) who wish to apply for a Ph d in Engineering.
IISc Entrance Test is conducted in Atmospheric Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Ecological Sciences, Mathematics, Management Studies, Materials Science.
Candidates with BE/ B Tech/ M Sc or equivalent degree who may not have qualified in any of the above mentioned National Entrance Tests will also be considered for the Ph D program in Engineering. Short listing for interview of such candidates is based on their academic performance in the qualifying degree (upto 3rd year in BE / B Tech, or 1st year in M Sc), and their performance in 10th and 12th /PUC examinations.
(ii) COURSE PROGRAM [ME/ M Tech/M Des]
(a) ME in Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Microelectronics, Signal Processing, Systems Science & Automation, and Telecommunication Engineering.
ELIGIBILITY
Minimum second class in Bachelor's degree in appropriate field of Engineering/ Technology; or Post B Sc AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering with valid GATE score.
Selection is based on valid GATE score only.
(b) M Tech in Electronics Design and Technology, Computational Science, Climate Science, and Instrumentation.
ELIGIBILITY
Minimum second class in the qualifying examination:
(1) Electronics Design and Technology: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with Electronics as one of the subjects of study; or Post B Sc AMIE or equivalent in Engineering; or Master's degree in Physics (with Electronics as special subject) and 2 years experience in Electronics hardware.
(2) Computational Science: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology; or Master's degree in Science (strong mathematical and programming background is required).
(3) Climate Science: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology; or Master's degree in Physical Sciences.
(4) Instrumentation: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in Instrumentation/Instrumentation & Control Engineering/ Electronics & Instrumentation/Electronics; or Master's degree in Science with specialization in Instrumentation/Electronics.
Selection for (1), (2) ,and (3) is based on an aptitude test and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE score and for (4) based on valid GATE score only.
(c) M DES in Product Design & Engineering
ELIGIBILITY
Minimum second class at Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design / Architecture or Post B Sc AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering including Architecture.
Selection is based on a Design Aptitude Test and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE / CEED scores.
(iii) INTEGRATED Ph D PROGRAM
(1) Biological, (2) Chemical, (3) Physical and (4) Mathematical Sciences
ELIGIBILITY
First-class in B Sc degree under 10+2+3 years system as indicated below for the various disciplines.
Biological Sciences: B Sc degree in Physical, Chemical or Biological Sciences (including Pharmaceutical, Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences).
Chemical Sciences: B Sc degree with Chemistry as one of the main subjects associated with Mathematics at PUC (Plus 2) level.
Physical Sciences: B Sc degree with Physics as a main subject.
Mathematical Sciences: B. Math; or B. Stat; or B Sc; or BA degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
All the candidates should qualify in IISc Entrance Test scheduled for 26th April 2009. The short-listing of candidates for interview is based on performance in the IISc Entrance Test.
(iv) EXTERNAL REGISTRATION PROGRAM(Ph D/M Sc(Engg))
It is a Sponsored Research program for working professionals from (1) R&D Organizations/Industries [for Ph D/ M Sc(Engg)] and (2) for Faculty members from Engineering, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary, Medical Colleges/ Universities, recognized by the appropriate government agencies [for Ph D only].
Ph D in Science: All the Science departments as indicated in (i) except High Energy Physics.
M Sc (Engg) & Ph D: All the Engineering departments as indicated in (i).
ELIGIBILITY
• Qualifications remain the same as for the regular candidates apart from that these should have two years experience in the
current employment • Age: NOT higher than 35 years for M Sc(Engg) and 40 years for Ph D as on 01.04.2009.
Desirable: Qualifying in one of the tests;IISc Entrance Test,CSIR-UGC NET for JRF,UGC-NET for JRF, DBT JRF,ICMR JRF, GATE,
NBHM.
Selection is based on individual’s performance in the interview to be conducted at the IISc.
Reservation for SC/ST/Physically-Handicapped and Kashmiri-Migrant candidates: As per the Government of India regulations. (Grade/Class of qualifying examination is relaxed to a “pass class” for SC/ST candidates).
Scholarships: All the regular students who join the Institute are eligible for IISc scholarship / fellowship from CSIR/ UGC/ ICMR/ MHRD/ AICTE/ NBHM/ as the case may be. Scholarships from GE / INFOSYS / IBM / HP / TATA / PHILIPS /BELL LAB are also available for meritorious students.

Send your request for application form with 2 address slips (stickers), and a demand draft for Rs.700/- for general category (Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PH categories, along with a copy of an appropriate certificate) to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012. The DD must be drawn in favor of “Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.
Online application – Online submission of application may be made by accessing the IISc website www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions w.e.f. 09.02.2009. Online application fee is Rs.500/- for general category and Rs.250/- for SC/ST/PH categories.
For External Registration Program - Candidates should write to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc, Bangalore - 560 012, enclosing a DD for Rs.1500/- drawn in favor of “Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.
(b) Submission of Application Forms.
Filled-in off-line and online application forms(hard copy) should reach the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc, Bangalore-560012 on or before 23.03.2009.

Supplementary Counselling 2008
Applications are invited for the conduct of supplementary counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2008 from Tamil Nadu candidates who have become eligible consequent to the special supplementary examinations held during 2008.
The seats vacant at the end of regular counselling will be offered to these candidates. Candidates can get the application form from the Centre for Admissions, Anna University Chennai, Chennai - 600 025 from 14.08.2008 by Cash/Demand Draft for Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- in case of SC/ST candidates* belonging Tamil Nadu) towards registration fee.
Application forms can also be obtained by post from the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, Anna University Chennai, Chennai - 600 025 along with a Demand Draft for Rs.650/- (Rs.400/- in case of SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) and an address label written in capital letters to which the application is to be mailed.
The Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of "The Director, Admissions, Anna University Chennai", Payable at Chennai.
Other State Candidates are not eligible. SC/ST Candidates should produce copy of the Permanent Community Certificate to avail fee concession.

Candidates seeking admission to LBSIM are required to appear in the Common Admission Test (CAT) to be conducted by IIMs on 16.11.2008.

Candidates should have passed H.Sc. (Academic Examination conducted by the State Board or any other equivalent examination in the First appearance.
B.Pharm : All categories other than SC/ST:Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology or Mathematics both in Theory and Practical with a minimum of 35% marks and with not less than 50% aggregate marks in the above subjects is mandatory.
For SC / ST: Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology or Mathematics both in Theory and Practical with a minimum of 35% of marks and with not less than 40% aggregate marks in the above subjects A pass in English with a minimum of 35% marks is mandatory. (ii) B.Sc. (Nursing)
For OC candidates: Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology (both Theory and Practical) and English with a minimum of 35% marks in each of above subject and with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology and English".
For BC/BCC/BCM/MBC/DC/SC/ST Candidates : Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology (both Theory and Practical) and English with a minimum of 35% marks in each of above subject and with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology and English". All Categories: Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology both Theory and Practical with a minimum of 35% of marks in each of the above subjects is mandatory.
English: A Pass in English with a minimum of 35% marks is mandatory.
7. D.Pharm candidates seeking admission under Lateral Entry Scheme:
Candidates belonging to all communities should have an aggregate of 50% of marks in the Part I (First Year) and Part ll(Second Year) in D.Pharm Examinations with a pass in HSC with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics.(or)Candidates belonging to all communities must have obtained not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in HSC with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics with a pass in two year D.Pharm Course.
The candidates who have passed the Diploma in Pharmacy course should submit the provisional certificate for having passed the Diploma Examination and should have completed 500/750 hours of practical training at the time of applying for the B.Pharm Course. The Diploma candidates will be admitted into Second year B.Pharm course directly under Lateral Entry Scheme (for further details the prospectus may be referred).
Candidates of Tamil Nadu origin who have studied in Diploma in Pharmacy in other State have to produce Eligibility Certificate from Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Chennai -32.
8. Candidates who have passed HSC course in Vocational Stream are not eligible to apply.

5. Age Limit:
The candidates should have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31st December 2008.
6. Qualification:
Candidates should have passed H.Sc. (Academic Examination conducted by the State Board or any other equivalent examination in the First appearance.
B.Pharm : All categories other than SC/ST:Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology or Mathematics both in Theory and Practical with a minimum of 35% marks and with not less than 50% aggregate marks in the above subjects is mandatory.
For SC / ST: Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology or Mathematics both in Theory and Practical with a minimum of 35% of marks and with not less than 40% aggregate marks in the above subjects A pass in English with a minimum of 35% marks is mandatory. (ii) B.Sc. (Nursing)
For OC candidates: Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology (both Theory and Practical) and English with a minimum of 35% marks in each of above subject and with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology and English".
For BC/BCC/BCM/MBC/DC/SC/ST Candidates : Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology (both Theory and Practical) and English with a minimum of 35% marks in each of above subject and with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology and English". (iii) B.P.T. / B.O.T.
All Categories: Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology both Theory and Practical with a minimum of 35% of marks in each of the above subjects is mandatory.
English: A Pass in English with a minimum of 35% marks is mandatory.
7. D.Pharm candidates seeking admission under Lateral Entry Scheme:
Candidates belonging to all communities should have an aggregate of 50% of marks in the Part I (First Year) and Part ll(Second Year) in D.Pharm Examinations with a pass in HSC with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics.(or)Candidates belonging to all communities must have obtained not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in HSC with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics with a pass in two year D.Pharm Course.
The candidates who have passed the Diploma in Pharmacy course should submit the provisional certificate for having passed the Diploma Examination and should have completed 500/750 hours of practical training at the time of applying for the B.Pharm Course. The Diploma candidates will be admitted into Second year B.Pharm course directly under Lateral Entry Scheme (for further details the prospectus may be referred).
Candidates of Tamil Nadu origin who have studied in Diploma in Pharmacy in other State have to produce Eligibility Certificate from Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Chennai -32.
8. Candidates who have passed HSC course in Vocational Stream are not eligible to apply.

Candidates aged more than 50 years as on 30.6.2008 are not eligible to apply.
Candidates of Tamil Nadu Nativity by domiciliary status and other State candidates who studied their MBBS and Post Graduate Courses in Tamil Nadu Medical Colleges who claim only Tamil Nadu Nativity and not the nativity in any other state alone are eligible to apply.
Candidates who have undergone a Higher Speciality degree in any discipline and Candidates who have joined any Higher Speciality Course and discontinued after the cut off date are not eligible to apply within two years from the date of discontinuation of the course.
4) Only Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission selected candidates from Tamil Nadu Medical Services who have completed three years of continuous satisfactory service as on 30.06.2008 will be considered under the seats earmarked for service candidate category.
