In the process, it has also played a role in strengthening the existing educational and health infrastructure of Manipal.Since its founding in 1984, TAPMI has received recognition and respect amongst the well-known industrial houses and academic institutions in India for the quality of its education. Over the years, the institute has earned a name for its Post Graduate Programme in Management (equivalent to an MBA) and the quality of student talent it has produced. Continuous improvements in the curriculum, structure, academic systems and faculty resources have contributed significantly to making TAPMI a preferred centre for management education. Today, over 1900 TAPMI alumni hold responsible managerial positions in India and abroad. In early 2009, its 25th year running, TAPMI took a landmark step in its history by shifting its operations to a new scenic 42-acre residential campus in Manipal. Located on the side of a hillock and overlooking a valley filled with verdant tropical greenery, this campus provides an ideal setting for serious academic study and creativity, combined with entertainment and relaxation.Manipal is home to a large number of educational institutes for medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, arts and science, engineering and technology and is known for its cosmopolitan ambience. The town is also known for its innovative development banking and financial services sector. The legendary pilgrimage town of Udupi is just a 15 minute drive from Manipal.
ProgrammesOverview
The twenty fifth batch of TAPMI’s two year post graduate diploma in management graduated in 2009. This fully residential program evolved through TAPMI’s continuous interaction with the industry and academia. The program’s orientation addresses issues faced by firms in the larger context of globalized competition. TAPMI emphasizes practice and experiential learning through the case method of teaching, which, originally pioneered by the Harvard Business School, is used today in leading business schools the world over. Over two years, students not only need to analyze numerous cases, but also engage in several course-based term projects, develop business plans and make presentations. TAPMI’s program is known for the rigor of its assessment processes – assessment events include short quizzes, class presentations, class participation and discussion, project reports and long examinations. State-of-the-art information and communication technology is extensively used for delivery as well as evaluation. TAPMI’s program includes an eight-week summer project with a company, after completion of the first year and a two-week project with a non-governmental (NGO) engaging in a social cause. During the former, students practically experience a business environment, while in the latter, they are sensitized to social issues and the efforts being made to address them by inspired groups of individuals. During the first year, students also spend a week in an outbound program, where they are taught practical organizing and leadership skills in an adventure-oriented setting. TAPMI’s faculty is a mixture of academic excellence and industry practice with about 70% having doctoral degrees. The faculty-student interaction at the institute spans across informal (in events such as cultural and sports), as well as formal spaces. In their last term, students can optionally write a research paper in collaboration with a faculty member, which might then be published in TAPMI’s annual research compendium. Located in Manipal, an international university town having more than 15000 students from across the globe pursuing education in Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Journalism and Management, TAPMI students get to live and study in a vibrant, cosmopolitan and intellectually stimulating environment. TAPMI’s new 42-acre campus surrounded by verdant tropical greenery provides soulful support to genuine academic endeavor.
