ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO M.Tech. PROGRAMMES:

(a) Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Courses: B.E. / B.Tech in respective branch of Engineering or equivalent AMIE (I) with 2 years of Experience.

(b) Computer Science & Engineering Department: BE/ B. Tech in CSE, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical or equivalent AMIE (I) in respective branch with 2 years of Experience.

(c) Electronics & Communication Engineering Department: (i) Specialization in “Telecommunication Engg.”: B.E./ B. Tech. or equivalent degree in ECE. (ii) Specialization in “Microelectronics & VLSI Engg.”: B.Tech. or equivalent degree in ECE/ CSE/EE/ Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering.

(d) Information Technology Department: B.E./ B.Tech. in IT/CSE/ECE/EE or Instrumentation Engineering.

(e) Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department: (i) Specialization in “Materials Engineering”: BE / B.Tech. or equivalent in Metallurgical & Materials Engg., Mechanical Engineering and M.Sc. in applied physics. (ii) Specialization in “Industrial Metallurgy”: B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent in Metallurgical & Materials Engg., Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering.

(f) Chemistry Department (Corrosion Science and Technology): M.Sc. in Chemistry (Pure/applied) or BE / B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering or AIC(I) with 2 years of Experience.

(g) Physics Department (Advanced Materials Science and Technology): M.Sc in Physics/ applied physics/ Electronics or BE/ B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engg. / Materials Engg./ Electronics & Communication Engg. /Mechanical Engg. /Electronics Engg. / Instrumentation Engg. With at least 55% marks or equivalent g¬rade.

(h) Mathematics Department (Operation Research): Degree in any branch of Engineering / Technology/ equivalent AMIE (I) / IIM (I) with 2 years experience/ MCA / M.Sc with Mathematics in graduate level.

(i) Biotechnology Department: B.Tech degree in Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biochemical Engineering/ Food Technology/ Chemical Engineering/ Pharmacy having 65% marks from any recognized University/ Institute.

(j) Geology-Co-ordinating Department:– (Environmental Science & Technology):B.Tech./ B.E. in Chemical / Civil/Mechanical/ Metallurgical / Biotechnology/ Lather Tech./ Food Tech. / Env. Engg./ Pharmacy/ Agricultural Engg./ Mining/ Biochemical Engg. with 60% marks. M.Sc. in Env. Sc./ Chemistry/ Physics/ Geology/ Bio-sciences/ Agri. Sc. With 55% marks [with mathematics as one of the subject at least up to Higher Secondary level (10+2 Exam.)]

Prescribed Application form and Information Sheet will be available from the Cash Counter of NIT, Durgapur from 20.4.2009 to 22.5.2009 between 10.30 A.M. to 1.00P.M. (working days) on payment of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST Candidates) by Demand draft drawn in favour of “NIT, Durgapur” payable at S.B.I, R. E. College branch (Code No. 2108), Durgapur. Application form can also be downloaded from the website http://www.nitdgp.ac.in and can be submitted to the Dean (PG Studies & Research), Academic Section, National Institute Technology, Durgapur-713209, West Bengal, along with Demand Draft. The envelope containing application should be superscripted by “Application for M.Tech / M.Sc (which one is applicable only) Programme-2009.” Last date of receipt of completed application form: 25.05.2009.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR M.Tech. and M.Sc COURSES

1. (a) The procedure of selection for admission to M. Tech. Courses are as follows:
(i) Only GATE qualified candidates are eligible to be admitted to Full-Time M. Tech. Courses. However, Non-GATE candidates may be considered for admission strictly on the basis of merit through a Written Test followed by Viva-voce subject to the availability of seats due to non-availability of GATE qualified candidates.

(ii) Full-Time GATE qualified candidates: 70% weightage on GATE Score and 30% weightage on Viva-voce. GATE qualified candidates for admission to Full-Time courses are required to appear for a Viva-voce at the specified date and time ( to be notified letter on) in respective Departments in NIT, Durgapur.

(iii) Full Time Non-GATE, Full-Time Sponsored and Part Time candidates: 30% weightage on Written Test, 40% weightage on Viva-voce and 30% weightage on Percentage of Marks / CGPA obtained in qualifying examination.

iv) Sponsored candidates must have a minimum of two years Full-Time work experience in a registered Firm/ Company /Industry /Educational or Research Institutions/ any Government Autonomous Organizations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought.
A letter from the Employer must be furnished along with the application form stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission. The Employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion of the course and will not claim for job through NIT Campus interview.

v) A No Objection Certificate from the Employer is essential for Admission to M.Tech. Programme of a Part-time candidate and their working place must be within 15 km from NIT, Durgapur.



1. (b) The procedure of selection for admission to M. Sc Courses will be as follows:-
The selection for M.Sc. programme in Physics/ Chemistry is based on 50% weightage on written test, 30% weightage on the Hons./ concerned subject marks and 20% weightage on viva-voce.

2. The complete application form must be accompanied by following documents:
i) Attested copy of GATE score card.
ii) Attested copy of mark sheet / Grade card of the qualifying examination.
iii) Attested copy of proof of date of birth.
iv) Attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (Not below the rank of a Tahsildar).
v) Attested copy of community certificate in case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating the status regarding creamy layer.
vi) Original sponsorship certificate & experience certificate in the case of sponsored candidates.
vi) Original no-objection certificate from the employer in the case of part-time candidates.
vii) Demand draft towards application fee as per the category of the candidate (Open/SC/ST).

Application without testimonials one liable to be cancelled. Name of the short listed candidates in each discipline and courses will be displayed in the institute website www.nitdgp.ac.in in the last week of June, 2009 for written test and viva-voce examination. All announcements related to admissions will be made through our website. The decision of PG- Admission Committee consisting all head of the Departments & Dean (PG & Research) as Chairman will be final.

3. Hostel accommodation for M.Tech. and M.Sc courses are not available in the Institute. However, few rooms may be arranged in the hostel for GATE-qualified candidates only.
