THE INSTITUTION
The Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad GECA), is the premier technical institute in Marathwada region of Maharashtra State. Established in 1960, by the Government of Maharashtra, with the view of catering to Maharashtra technical expertise requirement, this institution has earned well repute in a relatively short period of time. GECA has the distinction of being graded 'A' amongst the colleges located in the state of Maharashtra by the Directorate of Technical Education, Mumbai which oversees admissions to the college. The institute is affiliated to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad and is approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). All degrees are awarded by the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. The institute is situated in the heart of the city in the Osmanpura area sprawling over a campus of 30 acres with magnificent ashlars masonry buildings housing various Departments, Laboratories, Workshop and Hostels. The main building houses the Mechanical, Electrical Engineering , Applied Science and Engineering Mathematics departments while the New building houses the departments of Computer Science & Engineering and the Electronics and Telecommunications. A separate Annex building houses the department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics. All seats in the college are 'FREE' seats. For 'FREE' seats, the fees is as specified by directives of the Government of Maharashtra. There are no PAYMENT seats and no donation is taken from students.50% of the seats are reserved for students belonging to Backward classes , as per the directives of the Government of Maharashtra. The academic calendar is divided into the semester pattern. Students may pursue either part -time or full-time degree courses. All Full-Time undergraduate courses are conducted over a 4-year period divided into 8-semesters. Part -time undergraduate courses are conducted over a period of 4 1/2 years divided into 9 semesters. Part -time post graduate courses are conducted over a 3-year period divided into 6 semesters. With the commencement of Post graduate courses like MCA and M.E., the Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad has achieved a status of a major learning center. The institute has very senior and experienced faculty renowned for their proficiency in their fields. Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad is also actively involved in Consultancy services, Sponsored research, Professional development and continuing educational activities.

POST-GRADUATE COURSES
The Institute is organized into 5 Engineering departments namely, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, , Electrical, Electronics & Power Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. All Engineering departments offer B.E degrees. In addition, a full -time post graduate MCA degree is offered by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and part -time post graduate M.E. degrees are offered by the remaining four departments.
The part-time post graduate degrees were introduced in the year 1986, by the Government of Maharashtra, for providing facilities for higher education in the region. These post -graduate courses are in the disciplines of Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering with an intake capacity of 10 students. The full-time course of MCA was begun in the year 1992 with an intake capacity of 30 students.
All post-graduate courses are of 3 year (Six Semester) duration and the admissions are governed by the rules prescribed by the Government of Maharashtra and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.
