Sri Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy was born in Brahmanapalli Village, Marripadu Mandal, Nellore Dist. in Andhra Pradesh. After successful completion of his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the famous Regional Engineering College, (now National Institute of Technology) Warangal entered into construction field. As a successful Technocrat - Entrepreneur, he carried out many prestigious projects under the banner of K M C Constructions Ltd. The projects include National Highways, Bridges etc.
Sri Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy carried out large number of philanthropic activities in and around his native place contributing to the educational and economic development of the region. He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Udayagiri Constituency in 1985. His continuous services to the poor made him get elected to the Indian Parliament twice as Member of Parliament from Ongole Constituency in 1989 and Narasaraopet Constituency in 2004.
In the field of education, the Mekapati family donated land for Navodaya School, Krishnapuram, near Udayagiri, the only such institution in Nellore Dist.
To further his ambition of rural development, he formed “Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy Charitable Trust” and under this Trust established the “Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy Institute of Technology & Science (MeRITS)” at Udayagiri in 2002. The “MeRITS” is built with a vision to be among premier technical institutions of the nation and to serve as fountainhead of development of this region. The Institute is blessed with a serene and tranquil environment, well designed and well ventilated buildings, fully equipped and state of the art laboratories, enthusiastic and well qualified faculty and student care.
Sri Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy holds this Institution dear to his heart and is committed to its continuous and overall development.
