Bangalore University located in the Garden City of Bangalore aptly hailed as the “IT capital of India” wasestablished in July 1964 as an offshoot of the University of Mysore, primarily to include institutions of Higher learning located in the metropolitan city of Bangalore and the districts of rural Bangalore, Kolar. Initially, the two premier colleges of the city, the Central College(CC) and the University Vivesvaraya College of Engineering formed the nucleus of the Bangalore University. Soon after the establishment of the Bangalore University, as a first step in the reorganization of courses of instructions, the University introduced Honors courses in the year 1965-66

Bangalore University has completed forty five years of fruitful existence and has come to be hailed as one of the largest universities of Asia. Though original intended to be a federal university, it has eventually emerged as an affiliating University. The University has been accredited Bachelor of Business Management in 2001 by NAAC and has received Five Star Status. Academically, the university is structured into Six faculties - Arts, Science, Commerce and Management, Education, Law and Engineering. It has 41 post-graduate departments, One post-graduate Centre at Kolar, (started during 1994-95), Three constituent college, 473 affiliated colleges (of which 88 have PG courses) and several other Centers and Directorates of higher learning and research under its purview. AT present the University offers 51 Post-graduate courses.

About MS University

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was established in 1990, as per the Act 31 of 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu, as a Teaching-cum-affilliating University. The University has been named after the Tamil poet literate/Prof. P. Sundaram Pillai (1855-1897) the renowned writer of late 19th century, who is the author of famous verse drama MANONMANIAM. The University caters to the needs of three southern districts of Tamil Nadu viz. Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari. Dr. M. Karunanidhi, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 7th September 1990, formally inaugurated the University. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is the youngest of all Universities in India.
It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

This state University is a teaching cum affiliating University. The University has a vast teaching programmes offered by the various University Schools and Departments. Its affiliating jurisdiction of colleges includes the three southern districts of the state Tamil Nadu of India, namely, Tirunelveli, Thoothukkudi, and Kanyakumari.

The Administrative office and the University departments function at the Abishekapatti campus, which is situated on Tirunelveli - Courtallam highway. The Department of Sports, Youth Welfare Department, N.S.S., and Distance
Education Department have their offices at Schaffter Hall, Palayamkottai.
