He joined GIT in 1982 as an Assistant Professor after serving M.S. Ramaiah College of Engineering, Bangalore, as a Lecturer during for 3 years. He pursued his higher studies at University of Saskatchewan, Canada, where he earned his MS in Adaptive Control and Ph.D. in Neural Networks in the years 1990 and 1994 respectively. His areas of interest include Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, Adaptive Control and Robotics. He has published over 80 research papers in international and national journals and conferences. He has co-edited a book on Neuro-Control Systems published by IEEE press. He has attended and chaired many technical sessions in conferences held in Canada, USA, Singapore and India. The Karnatak Law Society’s Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT) was established in the year 1979 with a liberal financial donation by the Late shri Raosaheb B. M. Gogte, a noted Industrialist and philanthropist.
The Institute started with undergraduate courses in three Engineering disciplines with a total intake of 180 and a total staff strength of 16. Now, it offers under graduate courses in eight disciplines, postgraduate studies in five disciplines, Research and Ph.D. programmes in 8 decipline, Master’s course in Computer Applications and Master of Business Administration. The institute has seen a phenomenal growth in students strength from meagre 180 in 1979 to 2800 plus in the academic year 2008-09. The total staff strength has grown manifold from 16 in 1979 to 350 plus today. Accordingly, the infrastructure has also seen tremendous growth in pace with the growth interms of student strength, staff strength and addition of new courses.
The Institute has highly qualified and motivated faculty who are actively involved in research and are constantly associated with practicing engineers. The teaching staff strength is 211 (196 full time + 15 visiting) with 18 Doctorates and 100 plus Post Graduate qualification from institutes of high repute. The institute has received funds of more than a 1 crore from various Government agencies like UGC, AICTE and the Ministry of HRD for Research and Development Projects. All the departments have well equipped laboratories with facilities for experiments and studies in areas like Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Biomass Gasification, Fluidised Bed Combustion chamber, Material Testing, Digital Signal Processing, High Voltage Engineering, VLSI and advanced surveying instrument like Total Station. The campus has a full-fledged 10/100 MBPS intranet with OFC backbone and 4 MBPS leased line Internet link. The network is supported by various state of -the-art servers such as Web, Mail, DNS etc. Seminars, Contests, Short-term Courses and Continuing Education Programmes are conducted regularly for Students and Staff.
The Society has established Information Technology Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell in collaboration with Government of Karnataka in the year 2000 at GIT campus.
The Institute has a very strong Industry Interaction Centre and a full-fledged Training and Placement Cell. Regular mock interviews, group discussions etc., are conducted to train the students in developing soft skills.
Our past students are placed in blue-chip companies through campus interviews and now some of them are top-notch professionals in India and abroad.
Many reputed companies have been visiting the Institution for Campus Recruitment, to name a few are
v Infosys Technologies, Bangalore,
v Wipro Technologies, Bangalore,
v TCS, Bangalore
v Kirloskar Oil Engines, Pune,
v Cummins India Limited, Pune,
v Mahindra British Telecom Limited, Mumbai,
v Accord Software, Bangalore,
v HCL Info system, Bangalore,
v IT Solutions, Bangalore,
v PSPL, Pune,
v Patni Computers, Pune
GIT has produced a band of excellent Professionals who today, are Innovative Scientists, Managers in reputed companies, and competitive entrepreneurs.
The Institute’s Library is another attraction. It has more than 59,000 plus in volumes 17000 titles and has subscribed to a large number of National and International Publications. There is also an IEEE chapter in the Institute, which has been of great help to the students and the staff members who are involved in Research Activities. The Digital Library with e-access to more than 20,000 National and International Technical Journals (through DELNET- AICTE scheme), has been established to enable the academic community in the Institute to have a much faster access to information.
In addition to the high academic performance of the students, the institute has also produced high achievers in sports and extra-curricular activities. Sports, elocutions, debate and quizzes form, a part of the routine. In addition to organizing guest lectures by experts in various subjects, the Institute also conduct periodically spiritual lectures by eminent spiritual leaders of International Spiritual Trusts for uplifting moral values amongst the students. This has enabled our students in moulding their overall personality development. The college has an active student chapter of “ SPIC-MACAY ” and students are encouraged to participate in Social Service activities through N.S.S., every year. The institute conducts an annual meet, “Avalanche” to prepare the students in technical paper writing and presentation skills.
In the last decade, all self-financing Technical Institutions have experienced a transition period. A sudden and explosive transition from basic engineering applications to Hi-tech computer, Electronic and presently Information Technology had a direct impact on the students intake to basic branches which has even forced few technical institutions to almost close down some of the basic branches. Though in the history, Karnatak Law Society has seen minor set backs due to drastic changes in educational policies, yet, there are no instances of closing down any branch or Institution run by the Society. This itself speaks volumes about long-sighted vision, policy and the quality of education imparted by the Institutions run by the Society. Inconsistent technical education policies particularly with respect to admissions and fees structure and maintaining academic calendar has, slowed down the progress to some extent. Nevertheless, GIT under all changing situations has always retained qualified staff in all the branches without even giving any thought of closing any branch run by the Institute.

Admissions at GIT
Prospective Engineering students can seek admission to the Institute through the Common Entrance Test (CET) administered by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka. The CET is administered once a year, usually after the Pre-University Examinations of the Karnataka Pre-University Examination Board, Bangalore are over. The Test is notified in Newspapers sometime in January/February each year. The eligibility to take the CET and other criteria and procedures are published along with this notification and are subject to change every year. Students from other States in India are also required to take the CET for admissions to the Engineering Course in Karnataka. The students are urged to lookout for the CET announcement in the National Newspapers and to keep in touch with the nearest Engineering College for further information.
