Malnad College Of Engineering,Hassan

Malnad College of Engineering (MCE), Hassan, was established during 1960, in the later part of the Third Five Year Plan, as a joint venture of the Government of India, Government of Karnataka and Malnad Technical Education Society, Hassan. It is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The college is a reputed institution in the country. It has been awarded the Best Engineering College award by the Government of Karnataka.
Currently the college conducts 9 Under Graduate courses and 6 Post Graduate courses with more than 3000 students studying in various disciplines.





Hassan city is the Head Quarters of one of the 28 Districts in the state of Karnataka. It is a picturesque place midway on the National Highway (NH-48) that connects the Capital city of Karnataka, Bangalore and the Port city Mangalore. It is at a distance of about 180 Kms. from Bangalore. It is a well connected place with a good network of roads and rails. The city is located at 13o N 76.5o E and at an altitude of 943.05 mts. It enjoys a temperate climate with an annual rainfall of about 900 mm.

The INSAT Master Control Facility (a wing of ISRO), that monitors the health of Indian satellites is located at Hassan. World famous Hoysala temples of Belur and Halebeedu and Sharvanabelagola are located in the Hassan District.


The college is built on a sprawling campus of about 41.28 acres and has all the facilities required of a model technical education center.

Placement & Training
The college has a Placement & Training Department to train and assist the students in securing jobs under Campus Recruitment Scheme. Many reputed firms like Infosys, Wipro, BFL Software, MICO, Ashok Leyland, BPL Telecom, L&T and IT Solutions, visit the campus regularly to select the engineers in making for their organizations. Military recruitments are also made from time to time.

Library
The college has an exhaustive library with more than 60,000 volumes and has a well furnished Reference section. The library gets several National and International journals in various fields of Science, Engineering and Technology. In addition to this, each department has an In-house library.

Hostels
MCE is running Three Boy's Hostels in the campus accommodating about 750 students. There is a separate Girl's Hostel (off campus) accommodating about 250 students.

Other Facilities
There is a well maintained Swimming pool and a Gymnasium with multigym facility. The campus has a branch of the Syndicate bank, a Post Office, a Co-operative society and a Canteen.

Under graduation
All the Undergraduate courses are of 4 years (8 Semesters) duration.
The admission is through Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Department for Technical Education in Karnataka. However, there are a few seats available with the management. More information about the management seats can be obtained by contacting the college authorities.

Post-Graduation

M.Tech Programmes
All the M.Tech courses are of 18 months (3 Semesters) duration which includes Two semesters of course work and One semester of Project/ Thesis work. The project work can be taken up in industries.

The candidates for the M.Tech programmes should have taken the GATE examination securing good scores. However, in case of insufficient GATE candidates, some seats are given to the Sponsored candidates.

Research Programs

Master of Computer Applications Programme (MCA)

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering offers this programme

It is a 3 years (6 Semesters) programme which includes Five semesters of course work and One semester of Project/ Thesis work. The project work can be taken up in industries.
Eligibility: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer programing/ Computer science/ Computer Applications as a subject of study at 10+2 level.

For all the above programmes, the candidates should have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with not less than 50% of the marks in aggregate, in the examinations considered for the declaration of class. There will be reservation for SC/ST candidates as per the rules.

The candidates graduated from the universities other than in Karnataka have to obtain and submit Eligibility Certificate from Visweswaraiah Technological University, Belgaum, if selected for admission.
